EXPO 2013 to be opened by...
Each year we invite a leading business figure from one of the areas main industry sectors to open EXPO.
In 2011, Jimmy Milne OBE, Chairman and Managing Director of the Balmoral Group, did the honours, representing the energy industry.
Last year Prof. Rita Marcella, Dean of Aberdeen Business School at RGU opened the show.
This year we are delighted to have Peter Walker, General Manager of Meldrum House Hotel, to open the event at 9a.m.
After Peter has opened EXPO, we are delighted that Duncan Cameron, Director and General Manager of First Aberdeen, will also say a few words.
Quiet Zone and Cafe
As part of EXPO last year we introduced a “Quiet Zone” where visitors and exhibitors could meet over a cup of coffee and do business away from the stands. This year we are delighted to announce that this part of the show is being sponsored by Ledingham Chalmers.
The Ledingham Chalmers Quiet Zone and Cafe has been moved to the area linking the main exhibition in the ballroom and the extra exhibition area in the Beechwood Suite – so you can’t miss it! Find out more about Ledingham Chalmers here and make sure you use the coffee/tea available in the area at the special EXPO price!
Throughout the day there will be a series of free business-related seminars running in 2 rooms on the first floor. To find out what is on, click here. To book your free place, please contact event organisers Business Plus Scotland. firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01651 891790.
Come and join representatives from Aberdeen Inspired (the BID), Peterhead Energy Hub, VisitAberdeen, First Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire Council and the Chamber of Commerce for an informal lunch where you can meet, eat and debate a range of current topics relevant to businesses across Aberdeen City and Shire

Last Year's Granite EXPO
Around 1,100 visitors and exhibitors flocked to a business showcase event in Aberdeen on November 1st 2012.
With exhibitor numbers up 50% and visitors up 10% on last year’s inaugural Granite Expo, the sell-out event offered networking and cross selling opportunities as well as free business advice seminars including a session led by Gregor Lawson, co-founder of the multi-million pound Morphsuit phenomenon. In addition were a business breakfast hosted by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, a Business Network Scotland (BNS) event and a prize draw.
The event was officially opened by Professor Rita Marcella who said: “I was honoured to open this event as Dean of Aberdeen Business School. I am passionate about business. It is the unexpected and unanticipated opportunities that arise during networking that are often the most meaningful – that is what this event is about.” Granite Expo 2012 was supported by Aberdeen City Council. Project Director for Economic and Business Development Gerry Brough commented: “This year’s Granite Expo has been a great success. The event was extremely well attended by both exhibitors and visitors, which reflects the level of business, expertise and interest in Aberdeen and the North-east, reaffirming our position as a leading world city.
"Granite Expo is an important event in Aberdeen’s calendar and I am sure it will continue to grow to become even bigger and better in future years." Creator and event director Brett Jackson added: “We are delighted that Granite Expo was bigger and better than last year and provided valuable cross selling opportunities to visitors and exhibitors from many sectors. “Building on that success, we now look forward to next year’s Granite Expo which will take place on October 31st, 2013.”
The competition for the best stand was won by Thistle Hotels, with Itsy and Your Event Scotland receiving commendations.
